blog reflection

The capstone reflection made me gain in several aspects personally, socially and intellectually. Taking sign languages in skyline college guided me into the right direction for my senior topic which is cochlear implants for deaf people. Not only did it help me to succeed with my project but I gained knowledge of the use in sign language. I completed the 25 mandatory hours but I am currently still attending the class. Even though it was an exciting experience I encountered a couple challenges but over came them.

Personally, I learned a new language and I actually use it which I think is an accomplishment for me because I actually learned something new and will use it in the new future. I could communicate in a whole different language with deaf people now. I'm not fluent but I'm sure I can have a decent conversation in sign language but I plan to learn more. Socially, this experience actually lets me socialize with a whole new point of view in life with people suffering deafness. Intellectually, its a helpful trait to have. I believe communication is the key to life. with different ways of communicating for example, sign language which is a physical way to communicate; opens the door to bigger opportunities.

The challenge I encountered where having to learn a whole new language. I like to try new things so I set my mind to sign language and haven't given up. There are several things to remember but nothing I cant handle. the major challenge I had to overcome was actually learning from my teacher which is actually deaf. When I found out a deaf teacher who didn't speak nothing but sign language, I thought to myself how am I going to learn? He taught the class by using sign language and sometimes he would rite on the board. I liked my mentor because he was really patient. on top of that, I had to be patient with myself because it wasn't easy. I got the chance to experience something new, thanks to the capstone project. Without it sign language probably wouldn't even have crossed my mind. Now I wonder what the future has in hold for me.

Hearing the words “you’re hired” was one of the greatest things to hear. I was so excited to start my first job. I was 16years old when I first started working at Lucky supermarket. I was so proud of my self but on the other hand I knew working came with a lot of responsibilities. I knew I had to get my mind right if I was going to be going to school and having a part time job but I told my self I have the courage to do it. I mean I am Cynthia Ramirez; I could do anything if I set my mind to it.
Working at a young age for me came as a blessing. I wanted this for I can help my family and myself. When I first received my first paycheck I was so excited and took my family out to eat to celebrate. At first I thought it was difficult to deal with school and a job but I had to have the courage to be strong. Now, having a job is helpful. It changed me in many ways. Now I’m the one asking my mom if I could take her out to eat; now I’m the one being myself little things that I want. It helped me be more social and opened. I learned how to be more polite and social. When I grow up and become a successful psychologist I’m going to look back at my life and think it was those little things that counted.
From a service specialist at lucky, I’m on my way to become a wealthy psychologist. Lucky is just the begging of many jobs in my life. Ill always remember it though because it was my first job. Life takes many risks and you can’t tell your future so always have the courage to decide you paths in life. Overall you have the choice. Get through the day with a smile and never loose faith or courage in yourself.  If you don’t believe me, just watch in a couple years. Psychologist Cynthia is my name.
